This a 441 foot long WW II Liberty Ship named in his honor. The vessel was launched on April 13, 1943 by the Beth-Fairfield Shipbuilding Corp. in Baltimore, MD. This proud vessel transported vital supplies to overseas US and Allied Forces during WW II. Unfortunately, the ship was bombed and sunk at the Battle of Salerno, Italy in 1943.

The cover honors the nephew of George Washington who inherited Mount Vernon and managed the estate.
