HELP WITH DIAGNOSING FLUSH VALVE ISSUE
If you have water running into the toilet pan continuously and are not sure if you need to purchase a spare part / replace the flush valve or inlet/fill valve you can try this simple test to determine.
TEST:  If you turn the water off (from the stop cock bringing water into the house OR an isolating valve on the cistern), leave it for up to an hour, does the cistern empty?
If the cistern empties then the problem is with the flush valve seal or flush valve itself.
If the cistern does not empty then it will be the inlet/fill valve that is faulty.
NOTE:  Replacing the diaphragm may not always resolve your problem as the fault could be with the valve itself but it is a cheap way to try and resolve and is usually successful.  We also recommend washing your valve in warm water to ensure any limescale or grit which could be causing an issue is eliminated.
