antique Massachusetts State banner flag 61” silk fringe old rare.

This is a rare old flag from the late 19th century

Hand painted

Gold fringe around 3 sides, the other side has leather loops for attaching to a flag pole I think

As found condition- tears, stains, water marks, some losses of color

Two sided - one side depicts the Algonquian Native American with bow and arrow pointing down representing peace, with a blue shield with the state motto: Ense petit_placidam_sub_libertate_quietem

(By the sword we seek peace, But if only under liberty)

The back has a green pine tree which I believe is an "appeal to heaven"
