An elegant statement platter, in the high Victorian style, with Moorish arches, a more demure sister of the version illustrated in the Art Journal of 1862 above, and currently offered in this gallery. The Art Journal was the only Arts publication at the time independent of the Royal Academy. The RA promoted only architecture, sculpture, engraving and painting, and did not consider the 'decorative arts' such as pottery, woodwork, silverwork etc to be Art.

This platter is stamped with the mark of the KERR & BINNS period, which dates it to c.1852-62.
