Description
An Elephant Bird (Aepyornis maximus) eggshell from Madagascar. Aepyornis maximus was until recently considered to be the largest known bird to ever exist. It measured in at 3m tall and may have weighed up to half a ton. It was thought that the bird went extinct around 1000 years ago, however accounts exist which suggest it may have persisted on the Madagascar until just a few hundred years ago.
This eggshell comes labelled and stored in an acrylic case with padding.
