VICTORIAN FINE CHANTILLY LACE MANTILLA SHAWL, 1850 thru 1860s

A triangular black fine Chantilly lace mantilla shawl, 19th Century antique original civil war 1860s shawl, elaborately done with bouquets of flowers, and foliated motifs. The grand scale of the rectangular design, and the gossamer delicacy of the silk threadwork are best displayed when the full view of the intricate floral pattern is on display; worn over the head as a veil, or as a shawl across the shoulders. Made of silk fibers in a beautiful floral pattern. The edges are scalloped and the piece is in great condition for its age. The lace is quite ornate and elaborate in an amazing floral design. Most likely made in France.

CONDITION

Very Good condition. Has one small tear by edge with 1 tear few inches from edge, as shown in last photo. Jet black and not faded.

Width at center of triangle 57 inches top to bottom of triangle.
