US Air Force 596th Bombardment Squadron was a unit of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) that served during the Cold War. The squadron was activated in 1954 and was based at McCoy Air Force Base in Florida.

The 596th Bombardment Squadron was equipped with Boeing B-47 Stratojet bombers, which were capable of delivering nuclear weapons to targets deep inside the Soviet Union. The squadron's primary mission was to provide a strategic nuclear deterrent against potential Soviet aggression, and its bombers were on constant alert, ready to launch at a moment's notice.

During the Cold War, the 596th Bombardment Squadron was involved in numerous exercises and operations designed to test and improve the readiness of US strategic forces. The squadron also played a role in the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, when its bombers were placed on alert in response to Soviet missile installations in Cuba. The 596th Bombardment Squadron was deactivated in 1965 as part of a reorganization of US strategic forces.
