Here's a very scarce early Bennington "Croup Kettle" or medical inhalator pot from the 1850 era with its original cork stopper with 2 glass inhaler tubes! This Rockingham yellowware pottery kettle was made between 1847-1858 at the Lyman Fenton & Co Bennington Pottery in Vermont. You can see a similar croup kettle pictured on page 113, plate 159 in Richard Barret's book on "Bennington Pottery & Porcelain".The kettle is round with large footed base ring that has a vent tube protruding.....6 1/4"tall (6 3/4"with cork stopper) x 4 3/4"across base.....yellowware body with mottled brown Rockingham slip glaze.....rare original cork stopper with 2 clear glass tubes.... It has some heat stress cracking on the bottom surface only; no other damage. This croup kettle was used as a medical vaporizer or inhaler when someone had the croup or sickness...
