Here we have three King George V WWI-era censored covers to the United States and Switzerland. The envelopes to the U.S. are registered, resulting in varied frankings. The covers have some bumps, creases, etc., from international postal handling. The Swiss cover has small tears at the top and part of the backflap is missing.

1. A neat and small registered and censored cover from London EC to Philadelphia. The two 1.5d stamps are tied by East Cheap Rd. E 9 oval cancels of 29 MR 17. The addressee is Messrs Bowers-Weightman-Rosengarten Co, with no street given. The firm gave the cover anApr 11 1PM 1917 arrival mark in vermillion. The reverse has another East Cheap backstamp and a Philadelphia Registered backstamp of April 11. A third mysterious marking of 52/30 in a circle in violet needs investigation.

2. A small registered envelope with a different 3d franking of 4 ha'penny stamps and a 1d one. These are tied by mainly quite faint Wincanton handstamps and a "Registered" auxiliary marking. A pencil notation reads: "No Response/ Trip 2 / 6-8-16", which would appear to have been applied in a railway post office. The cover is addressed to a JM Jensen, Cherry St., Waterloo, Iowa. The reverse has Bristol (24 MY), Liverpool (28 MY) squared circle, Chicago IL and Waterloo transit markings, the latter of Jun 9 1916, giving a clear sequence of progress. The registry label is crumpled. The cover is sealed with red wax.

3. A 15 JA 17 fragile paper cover with 2.5d postage from Manchester to Messrs Straub & Co., Emmishofen, Switzerland. The stamps are tied by both machine and hand cancels. The reverse has the return address of Park, Andrew & Co., 91/93 Portland Sq., Manchester and an Emmishofen two-ring backstamp of 20.1.17.

The postage costs on this item are higher than I would like and, after leaving them unchanged for several years, I have raised them slightly in line with the 2023 postage rates. For lots worth $40 or more I highly recommend the domestic or signed-for tracked service and cannot be responsible for such lots sent by ordinary mail. The postage to Britain will be $1.60.

As I have some fixed-price items anyone who purchases one of my lots might want to look at them before paying. Additional postage is free for subsequent purchases unless they are too big for my normal very low basic rates. If you are buying more than one item please wait for me to send an invoice so I can combine postage.

When payment for lots won is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item cannot go out until the following Monday.
