Roger Mayer Purple Haze Octavia #48/100
The ultimate modern version of the original Octavia

After reuniting with the Octavia produced by Roger Mayer himself for the first time in 50 years, he decided to produce it again.
This is the ultimate wedge-shaped Octavia made in 1967, produced in a limited edition with an autograph!

・Add next-stage circuit to strengthen output
By adding a second-stage output circuit after the first-stage waveform shaping circuit that generates overtones an octave higher, the final output level increases.
You can also output to your DAW. In addition, sufficient headroom has been achieved by using a 24V DC power supply.

・Low impedance output
Low impedance output allows connection to various devices. There is no compromise in the quality of the parts used, and they are used in our top-of-the-line studio equipment.
It uses the same parts as the existing one.

·power supply
This machine operates on DC power from 9V to 24V. 3-stage power filtering ensures that no matter what power source is used,
High performance can be achieved with virtual battery effect. It also has diode protection against incorrect power supply polarity.
Of course, you can also use standard 9V dry batteries. The battery holder is located on the base for quick and easy battery replacement. There is also a DC power terminal on the board.
Standard 2.1mm barrel connector with center negative polarity. The cable comes out from the side of the case.

・VOLUME and ON/OFF switch
The VOLUME control knob also serves as a power ON/OFF switch. This is convenient because there is no need to disconnect the INPUT cable to prevent battery consumption when not in use.
There is no need to reconnect it each time it is set on the pedal board.

- Operates up to 24V DC
Operation up to 24V DC eliminates input stage gain issues and allows for more headroom and octave control. If you use a power supply that can continuously vary the output voltage, you will be able to create a wider range of sounds.

・6-layer printed circuit board and triple shielding
All circuits are connected between the two power layers on the board, and together with the case provide effective triple shielding from electrical and electromagnetic interference generated in various environments. Ferrite transformers are wound around a core that provides much better shielding than the unshielded transformers that were standard 50 years ago. Everything is designed for ultimate performance.

This unit consists of an analog circuit that includes a multiplier circuit that produces twice the frequency component, an envelope generator, and an amplitude modulation circuit that includes a frequency shaping filter.
Depending on the setting, the effect changes from delicate to wild depending on the player's picking. Ring modulation effect for sharper clean tones
The overtones are demonstrated in the solo of Who knows.
Plugging the fuzz in front of the Octavia changes the sound up an octave, as heard in Purple Haze's solo.
Using the front pickup, you can easily produce bright harmonics by adjusting the tone control's treble aperture.
This effect occurs especially above the 7th fret on the 1st and 2nd strings. The key to getting it right is to have a clean and accurate picking style,
It is important to press the frets accurately.
At most of his shows, Jimi would connect the Octavia after the fuzz and wah. It responds to both wah and fuzz for easy control on stage.
This is to make it. However, this connection order may be different in the studio.
It's also important to experiment with how loud you drive Octavia. With the addition of a second stage amplification circuit, this unit allows you to express your tone.
You can quickly find it and set it to the best signal.

Ferrite transformers are used in the original Octavia, prototype, and this Purple Haze Octavia.
Ferrite transformers have wide bandwidth and signal clarity. Currently, I use ferrite in a lot of my studio equipment.
Its detail and transparent sound have received high praise. The performance exceeds that of conventional steel core transformers, and the shielding effect is also excellent.
However, it is not a commercially available product, but a custom-made and extremely expensive part. So, in 1967, I decided to make an Octavia that ran on a 9V battery for the stage.
When asked, I chose a common audio transformer. I made a small batch of this iron trance version of the Octavia, and Jimi used it on his Band of Gypsys recordings.
I also developed a non-transformer version of the Octavia circuit, which was the last major change in development in 1970. The non-trans versions I produce today have their roots in products dating back to that time.
. This is a slightly aggressive tone due to the gate effect.

In 1980, he designed the wooden model of the rocket-shaped case, which is now an icon, by carving it himself. This is a thin, original model
was equipped with an optical switch that was switched using FET. The rocket-shaped case is still the same, but the switch was later changed to a conventional curling DPDT switch.
