AUTOR

Hilarius (um 315 - 367)
Um 350 wurde er Bischof von Poitiers. Er schrieb die erste Gesamtdarstellung der Lehre der Heiligen Schrift über Gott und den Gottes Sohn. Östliche und westliche Theologie verband er miteinander und lehrte die Vereinbarkeit von Glauben und Vernunft. Aus dem gemeinsamen Leben des Hilarius mit seinen Mitbrüdern entstanden die ersten klösterlichen Gemeinschaften Galliens.

Hilarius gilt auch als der erste Hymnendichter der lateinischen Kirche.
Im Jahre 1851 wurde er zum Kirchenlehrer erhoben.

BESCHREIBUNG

Erste Ausgabe der Sammlungen von 122 Hymnentexten für das ganze Kirchenjahr in Köln bei Quentell gedruckt.

Einleitend mit großem Accipies-Titel-Holzschnitt, welcher den Heiligen Gregor in seinem Studierzimmer mit zwei Schülern zeigt. Auf seiner rechten Schulter sitzt eine Taube. Dieser Holzschnitt findet gerade in Drucken, die bei Quentell in Köln erschienen, Verwendung.

Ein Accipiesholzschnitt ist ein Holzschnitt der zeigt, wie ein von der Taube des Heiligen Geistes inspirierter Lehrer seinen Schülern Unterricht erteilt. Auf einem Schriftband steht der lateinische Hexameter „Accipies tanti doctoris dogmata sancti“ - Vernimm die Glaubenslehren des heiligen Doktors Thomas von Aquin. Quelle: wikipedia (auszugsweise).

Der Inkunabeldruck präsentiert sich mit den typischen Interlinearglossen; die Hymnentexte stehen dabei mittig in einem größeren Schriftgrad während der erklärende Text um diese herum gedruckt ist.

Einige Unterstreichungen in Rot. Blatt Lii verso und Liii mit ausführlichen zeitgenössischen Annotationen und einigen eingemalten Initialen in Rot.

Dunkelbrauner Leder-Einband mit blindgeprägten Rosetten und Streicheisenlinien im Stile des 15. Jahrhunderts. Goldgeprägter Rückentitel. Buchblock fest und stabil. 4 Bünde.

Maße: 21,5 x 16 x 2 cm.

ZUSTAND

In guter Erhaltung. Kräftiger Druck und festes Bütten. Titel gebräunt. Papier gleichmäßig gebräunt und vorwiegend in der unteren Ecke, gegen Ende im Bug mit Wasserrand, im seitlichen Rand teilweise etwas gestaucht. Blatt Dii im seitlichen Außenrand mit Papier restauriertem Längsriss. Stellenweise mit alten handschriftlichen Marginalien.

ExLibris Bernd Oetter – dessen radiertes Exlibris im Einbandinnendeckel vorn. Nummeriertes Exlibris 151/400. Inschrift „PATRIA MEA ORBIS TERRARUM“.

First edition of the collections of 122 hymn texts for the whole church year printed in Cologne by Quentell.

Introductory large Accipies title woodcut showing St Gregory in his study with two pupils. A dove is sitting on his right shoulder. This woodcut is just used in prints published by Quentell in Cologne.

An Accipies woodcut is a woodcut that shows how a teacher inspired by the dove of the Holy inspired by the dove of the Holy Spirit. Dark brown leather binding with blind-stamped rosettes and string-iron lines in 15th century style. Gold stamped title on spine. Book block firm and solid. 4 frets.

CONDITION

In good condition. Strong impression and firm laid paper. Title browned. Paper evenly browned and mainly in the lower corner, towards the end in the centre with waterstains, in the lateral margin partly somewhat creased. Sheet Dii in the lateral outer margin with paper restored longitudinal tear. In places with old handwritten marginalia.
