THE WORKS (Ryan 1996) 150 Years of Inchicore Railway Works Ireland Trains Dublin. Pictorial card covers. 98 pages. Illustrated throughout. Excellent copy of a scarce book.

The Inchicore Works was established in 1846 to maintain and construct rolling stock for the Great Southern & Western Railway. It was the largest engineering complex of its kind in Ireland. The development of the Works was responsible for the transformation of Inchicore from rural agricultural to an industrial village in the nineteenth century. The railway network transformed Ireland, linking remote areas in the country with urban settlements and ports, while promoting the commercialisation and industrialisation of larger towns.
