In order to read signals at a constant linear velocity, the rotation speed of a music CD must gradually decrease as it moves toward the outer circumference. Normally, the spindle motor is responsible for this linear speed adjustment. Ordinary CD players and transports use a direct drive system, in which the motor is located directly under the disc turntable and directly drives the turntable, which is directly connected to the motor shaft. However, in order to obtain controlled and stable rotation, it is necessary to use a somewhat larger motor, and it is impossible to escape signal distortion caused by the vibration and electromagnetic noise generated by that motor.
To solve this problem, the unique belt-drive system we have adopted raises the mass of the turntable by using a heavyweight CD stabilizer and utilizes the force of inertia to obtain extremely smooth and stable rotation of the disc. The motor is smaller, located farther away from the disc's axis of rotation, and driven from a distance by the belt to absorb vibration, creating an ideal environment for stable and accurate reading and transmission of the music signal. In addition, the TL5 is designed so that the belt can be reached at any time, making it easier to maintain and handle.
Output Terminals
Three digital outputs are provided: balanced AES/EBU, COAXIAL (RCA), and TOSLINK (rectangular optical). All terminals are directly attached to the circuit board responsible for control and signal transmission to minimize transmission paths and ensure stable signal quality.
Display
A fluorescent display with excellent visibility is used. A dimmer function allows the brightness to be switched among three levels (bright, off, dark).
