Pop king Leon Lai makes his directorial debut with the crime action film Wine War. Leon himself co-stars with award-winning actor Zhang Hanyu (Manhunt) in the France-set mystery thriller involving old friends, vineyard feuds and a wine recipe that dates back to the days of Kublai Khan.
Childhood buddies Zhang Shui (Zhang Hanyu) and Wille (Leon Lai) lived at the same orphanage when they were young. Wille was adopted to France and grew up into a wine connoisseur while Shui stayed in China and never amounted to much. Years later, Shui suddenly travels to France and asks for Wille's help to bid for a bottle of red wine called "The God of Wine." At Chateau Khan, Wille encounters the beautiful and mysterious auction organizer Yvonne (Du Juan) and buyers Lu (Huang Shanghe) and Fang (Wang Yaoqing), a brutish tycoon who is connected to Zhang. What seems like a simple auction turns out be an elaborate ruse that quickly turns dangerous.

Synopsis :
Shui Zhang (Zhang Hanyu) and Waley (Leon Lai) were buddies at an orphanage. Adopted by a French couple and moved to France at a young age, Waley has become a wine connoisseur prodigy. Left alone in China, Shui Zhang grows up to be a braggart and a nobody.
When Shui Zhang travels to France one day to enlist Waley’s help in auctioning a bottle of red wine called “The God of Wine,” said to contain Kublai Khan’s secret wine-brewing recipe, Waley accepted the challenge in a heartbeat. During the auction, Waley encounters a representative from the seller, the beautiful Yvonne (Du Juan), and falls in love with her at first sight.
The other potential buyer is the wealthy and imposing coal tycoon Changfang Fang. While he appears to be a rich and vulgar brute on the surface, he is much more than meets the eyes. Adding to the mystery is the private connoisseur of suspicious origins following Fang everywhere. To Waley’s surprise, Zhang and Fang seem to be sharing secrets between themselves.
The group of buyers set off an out-of-jhand wine war, but as it turns out, the suction is not even about wine at all.
