Chinese Butterfly Swords

Popularized in martial arts by Wing Chun Kung Fu practitioners, the butterfly swords are short, quick weapons well-suited to spinning attacks and wards favored by the martial art. They were supposedly a speciality of the first popularized legendary founder of Wing Chun Kung Fu – Yim Wing Chun, who learned the martial art style from a Buddhist nun so that she could defeat a local warlord who attempted to force her to marry him.

These Chinese Butterfly Swords were made in the Pakistan. The blades are of hand-forged sharp, 5160/D2 high carbon steel tempered to HRC 54-60. The guard and pommel are of brass and the grip is Kamagong Filipino hardwood. The blades fit, side by side into a single scabbard – a cunning design to give the impression that the wielder carries only a single weapon at their belt. The scabbard is of wood and is overlaid with black leather.

Please Note: Due to being crafted in a tropical environment with native woods, it is common for these weapons to develop thin, minor cracks in the wood and the scabbard as the woods adjust to our more temperate environment. Cracks in items sent to you will not be harmful to the structural integrity of the item.

It is recommended that a light coating of protective oil is used to protect the wood from dryness and cracking.
