This is electroplated silver. The banded stem has a marbled
"laque de Chine" finish. Founded by Jeweller Charles Christofle in
1830 the maison Christofle still flourishes today. They have done so through
collaboration with the best designers of their day. This tazza was designed for
Christofle at a time when they were being artistically lead by Danish silver
designer Christian
Fjerdingstad and Italian designer Gio Ponti, however the design has been
produced since the 1930s.

Please do
not think me egotistical, however, it is important that people know exactly who
I am. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took
a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became
head of the Decorative Arts department. The same year I was invited by the BBC
to take part in the Antiques Roadshow four decades later I am still enjoying
being a part of the team.
