A Prisoner's Progress by Lieutenant David James
Hardback published in 1947 by William Blackwood & Sons. Inscribed by the author on the half title.
David James was captured by the Germans after a spirited action in the North Sea, during which is motor gunboat was sunk. That was in February 1943 when the result of the war was still very much in the balance.
His subsequent adventures in and out of 'Marlag' are told here with a freshness and enthusiasm which lifts his story right out of the press of escapers' books of which there are many. His coolness in awkward situations was remarkable - it is perhaps enough to say that most of his wanderings were carried out in R.N.V.R. uniform.
