This sale is for a large size vintage hardback FIRST EDITION entitled “Turner’s Birds,” subtitled “Bird Studies from Farnley Hall,” by David Hill, with numerous illustrations in COLOUR, including an illustrated half-title and title page.

 

It was published by Phaidon Press Limited, of Oxford, and is the 1988 FIRST EDITION (stated).

 

This is an enchanting book which reproduces the twenty exquisite watercolours of birds, including the peacock, partridge, pheasant, grouse, and robin, which J. M. W. Turner painted for the Farnley Hall Ornithological Collection, and which are now owned by the Leeds City Art Gallery.

 

The book was published for the exhibition Turner at Farnley – the Book of Birds held at the City Art Gallery, Leeds, from April – June 1988 and the Clore Gallery, Tate Gallery, London, from 10 October – 11 December 1988.

 

The book measures 9.75 inches x 8.5 inches and has 64 pages (including illustrations). 

 

The book is in good, neat condition for its age, with minor wear to the similarly very good original dust-jacket (not even price-clipped!) There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book.  The binding is good with no loose or missing pages.

Unwinsbooks have held down shipping prices from 2013-2020 in spite of small increases in postage costs.  However, Royal Mail Prices dramatically changed on 1 July 2020, as a result of exceptional cost increases outside of their control, so we are reluctantly having to pass on pricing increases for parcels being sent overseas (primarily USA, New Zealand, Australia and the Rest of the World). 

 

These costs are a direct result of: 

 

• An increase of more than 100% in the fees the US Postal Service (USPS) charges for the delivery of international mail.

 

• Securing air freight at inflated market costs due to a 95% reduction in air passenger flights globally. This has not affected domestic or postage within the EU.

If the Royal Mail reduce their charges in the future (in particular what they term “Temporary Air Carrier Supplement Pricing”) unwinsbooks will reduce the international costs accordingly.
