The Canon de 155mm GPF (Grande Puissance Filoux) was designed during WWI by Colonel LJF Filloux and became the standard heavy gun of the French Army from 1917 until WWII.

France had 450 in service in 1940. Many of them were pressed into service in a coastal defence role during the rest of WWII where they were designated K418(f) and K419(f). Perhaps the most famous being the gun battery at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy close to Omaha beach.

The gun was also manufactured by the US under the designation 155mm Gun M1917 or M1918 until around 1942 when they were replaced by the 155mm M1A1 "Long Tom". The 155mm Gun M1918 was also mounted on the M12 Gun Motor Carriage. Typically the US used them for coastal defence of allied territories typically on a Panama mounting where the gun swivelled on a central concrete pillar with its trails spread out on rails around the pillar.
