Description:

A charming souvenir from Madame Tussauds London, a remarkable survivor! A paper covered wood box with a dome shaped lid stamped with "A Present from Madame Tussauds". The exterior is covered in a mock crocodile paper and the interior has a quilted silk lining in the base and lid. This could have been used for jewellery or sewing items.

Madame Tussauds exhibition of waxworks opened in London in 1835.

Please note the box has a lock but I do not have the key.

Identifying Marks / Makers Marks: Stamped "A Present from Madame Tussauds" on the lid.
Age / date of manufacture:

Unknown.

Size: Measures 4 5/8" (11.75 cm) x 2 9/16" (6.5 cm) and is 2 3/8" (6 cm) tall to the top of the domed lid.

Condition: In fair original antique condition. The box has a lock but I do not have the key. The exterior of the box is covered in a patterned mock crocodile skin paper which has a thin varnish, this is worn in places as can be seen in the photographs and the varnish has started to flake but I feel this adds to the patina and charm of the piece.

The interior of the box is beautifully lined inside in both the base and the lid with quilted silk, the lid has been used for pins or brooches in the past so has some small holes in the silk but otherwise the lining is in good condition.
