Order of the USSR Ministry of Defense No. 148 of July 6, 1973, introduced a new "Regulation on the Military Sports Complex of the USSR Armed Forces." The insignia were partially changed. The third class insignia was eliminated, but the first and second class insignia remained unchanged (and therefore the author does not describe them). Instead, a higher gradation was added - the Golden Award Badge "Warrior-Athlete", which requires five consecutive years of confirming the standards and requirements of the first degree.

It is not surprising that the first presentation took place on February 2, 1978, when soldiers of the Moscow garrison were awarded. The first to receive this award was an airborne paratrooper, Major General L.G. Kuzmenko, who, by the age of 53, had managed to confirm the first degree of TSC for five years.19 The drawing of this badge was developed by the artist of the Technical Committee of the USSR Defense Ministry A.B. Zhuk. It was produced at the Moscow Factory of Sports Souvenirs and Signs.
Description of the Badge "Golden warrior-athlete"
A five-pointed star with a diameter of 36 mm, the rays of which have a dashed surface with an axial edge. There is a shoulder around the perimeter. This star is superimposed on another one, consisting of narrow rounded spikes. Its diameter is 4 mm smaller than the main one and it is turned by 36° relative to it, thus creating a ten-ray composition.

The center of the sign is bordered by a laurel wreath, which is closed at the top by a point, and at the bottom by two crossed ribbons. The inner red pollen, with a ray incision under the enamel, depicts an athlete running to the right. The sign is attached to a figured block (17x20 mm) in the form of a flattened figured shield covered with red cold enamel with a radial incision underneath and an inscription in two lines: "Warrior-/athlete". All details and inscription are golden. Made of aluminum. Size 58*36 mm. Fastening by means of a pin on the block.
