SUMMARY:

A  rare WW1 Weekly Dispatch of London Newspaper Advertising Gun-Metal Pocket Watch 1914 with a white enamel dial and Roskopf type movement and with period base maetal labert type watch chain

The watch with the rare feature of a reversing seconds hand, it runs counterclock wise, first one I have ever seen.

The watch recently cleaned and overhauled and comes with a one year mechanical warranty

First published as the Weekly Dispatch in 1801, the newspaper was bought by Alfred Harmsworth and Lord Rothermere in 1903[ from the Newnes family. The pair turned it around from bankruptcy, and made it the biggest selling Sunday newspaper. The name was changed to the Sunday Dispatch in 1928. 

This watch distributed during WW1 to drum up sales for the newspaper,  Weekly Dispatch,and a rare example of a WW1 gun-metal cased pocket watch used for this purpose.

THE DIAL: 96% mint, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals and in bright condition with minor edge chips hidden by the bezel. The dial with fine blued seconds hand and hour and minute hands. Diameter is 41 mm. The crystal in good condition. The dial signed, Weekly Dispatch,

THE MOVEMENT: 90% mint, a gilded three quarter-plate and a Bosely regulator, and blue steel screws. An uncut three arm balance, with hairspring and Roskopf escapement. The movement overall of very good quality, with free swinging balance staff so requires repair.; note one of the winding wheels requires replacement due to missing teeth


THE CASE: 85% mint, with superficial rust bloom, easily removed and the case reblued. Case size is 48 mm with snap on top cover and hinged rear cove
