Five years after the success album “Empires Never
Last“ the seventh studio album by Galahad was released in 2012. Its
production was overshadowed by Neil Pepper’s death of cancer. Galahad describe
this work as their music for the 21st century and further write about it: “In
fact we all feel that is easily the best studio album we have ever recorded in
terms of songwriting, performances, mixing, arrangements and pure sonic
quality! Neil is an integral part of this recording and we are sure he would be
very proud of what we have achieved with 'Battle Scars'.“
Also for me this is Galahad’s best album until that time. With this work Galahad continue their new musical course from “Empires Never Last“ und have enriched their magnificent sound with further musical elements. “Battle Scars“ is a compact, versatile and exciting album. The music is modern, powerful, dynamic and full of energy. The CD offers an excellent band performance with first class and expressive vocals by Stuart Nicholson and a very strong instrumentation with great guitar and synthesizer sounds.
Whether it’s the bombastic title song with many changes in mood and tempo, the power tracks “Reach for the Sun“ and “Bitter and Twisted“, the epic “Singularity“ or the gorgeous new recording of the classic “Sleepers“: this is a very strong album from the beginning till the end.
The album was recorded, engineered and mixed by Karl Groom at Thin Ice Studios, on the well-known high quality level for this studio.
This CD is released as digipak with 16 page booklet. You can listen to all tracks on galahad1.bandcamp.com . For me this album belongs to the great progressive rock highlights of 2012 and I can highly recommend it.

Fünf Jahre nach ihrem Erfolgsalbum “Empires Never
Last“ erschien 2012 das 7. Studio-Album von Galahad. Dessen Erstellung war vom
Tod von Neil Pepper an Krebs überschattet. Galahad selbst bezeichnen dieses
Album als ihre Musik für das 21. Jahrhundert und schreiben dazu: “Wir haben
echt das Gefühl, dies ist das beste Studioalbum, das wir je produziert haben,
was das Songschreiben, die Ausführung, das Mixen, die Arrangements und die pure
akustische Qualität anbetrifft! Neil ist ein integraler Teil dieses Albums und
wir sind sicher, er wäre sehr stolz darauf, was wir mit 'Battle Scars' erreicht
haben.“
Auch für mich ist dies das bis dahin beste Album der Band. Mit diesem Werk setzen Galahad ihren mit “Empires Never Last“ eingeschlagenen neuen musikalischen Kurs fort und haben ihren tollen Sound um weitere musikalische Elemente erweitert. “Battle Scars“ ist ein kompaktes, vielseitiges und packendes Album. Die Musik ist modern, kraftvoll, dynamisch und energiegeladen. Geboten wird eine exzellente Bandleistung mit erstklassigem und ausdrucksvollem Gesang von Stuart Nicholson und einer sehr starken Instrumentierung mit tollen Gitarren- und Synthesizer-Sounds.
Ob es sich um das bombastische Titel-Stück mit vielen Stimmungs- und Tempowechseln, die Power-Tracks “Reach for the Sun“ und “Bitter and Twisted“, den epischen Song “Singularity“ oder die packende Neuaufnahme des Klassikers “Sleepers“ handelt: dies ist ein durchgehend sehr starkes Album.
Das Album wurde von Karl Groom (Shadowland/Threshold) in den Thin Ice Studios aufgenommen, gemixt und gemastert, auf dem für dieses Studio bekannten hohen Qualitätsniveau.
Die CD erscheint im Digipack mit 16-seitigem Booklet. Dieses
Album zählt für mich zu den großen Progressive-Rock-Highlights von 2012 und ist
absolut empfehlenswert.
