Title: Construction d'un Cairn au Cap Tscheljuskin [Building a Cairn at Cape Chelyuskin, the farthest point north of Eurasia]

Description: It is an authentic antique print approximately 140 years old, from the French journal Le Tour du Monde, Nouveau Journal des Voyages, (1882, First Semestre) edited by Edouard Charton, a copy of the title page is included for documentation. The journal, published from 1860-1914 was composed of a series of articles based on first hand expedition reports, sketches and photographs by renown explorers and travelers of the day. The prints were designed by "the most celebrated artists of the day" according to the Tour du Monde title pages. This particular print appeared in the article "Voyage of the Vega" by Adolf Erik Nordenskiold, the Swedish-Finnish explorer and mineralogist, who led the SS Vega Expedition along the coast of Eurasia from 1878-1879. It would become the first Arctic Expedition to navigate through the Northeast Passage, as well as the first to circumnavigate the Eurasia land mass, considered one the highest achievements in Swedish Science.
