A rare variant of the once common Cryptocoryne affinis plant. Originating from Malaysia, Cryptocoryne affinis ‘Metallic Red’ is a natural variant where leaves are brownish-red instead of the normal dark green. One of the few red coloured foreground plants currently available in the hobby. Can be used as a foreground/midground plant where a carpet effect can be achieved when the plants send out runners.

This is the true C.affinis 'Metallic Red', there appears to be various Cryptocorynes out there by major nurseries marketed as C. affinis, which are in fact, a variant of the common C. wendtii.

Please note that when introduced into a new environment, this Cryptocoryne may lose some or all of its leaves, where the leaves appears to have melted away. This is commonly known as ‘Crypt Melt’ and does not mean the plant is dead. New leaves will emerge in around 2 weeks time. Once settled, move the plants as little as possible as it is not as tolerant to being moved around as other plants.

They have been grown in my own shrimp tank, guaranteed to be free from pests or other harmful medication. Shrimp and invert safe.
