The Tuareg people are nomads of the Sahara, of Berber descent also known as the Blue Men of the Sahara in reference to the blue robes they wear. The Tuareg are a mainly nomadic people who live in the semi-arid Sahara in an area that overlaps with the modern nations of Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Algeria and Libya. They are known alternately as warriors,traders and pastoralists. Most are Muslim, although the extent of religious orthodoxy varies greatly within the culture, and for the most part the Tuareg are not regarded as strict observers of Islamic custom.
