CSS Rappahannock: This 200' steam powered commerce raider was built in England in 1856 as HMS Victor and was commissioned on April 1, 1856. The vessel had problems and was sold to a Confederate Agent in 1863. She was commissioned in November 1864 in the English Channel. However, leaving the Thames Estuary her engine bearings burned out and she was taken to Calais, France for repairs. Detained by the French, she never got to sea and was turned over to the Union at the close of the civil war.
