USS Pruitt DM-22 a Naval cover for this proud ship that was in overhaul
during the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Her crew assisted other ships in firing
on the enemy aircraft and manned fire hoses.
First day cover postmarked on April 10, 2023 at Freedom, Maine. Blue photo of the USS Pruitt
on cachet #3136 by Alvin Eckert, USCS #9964. This 314 foot minelayer
was built in Bath, Maine. and commissioned in 1920 as a destroyer DD-347.
She was converted to a mine layer in 1937, and after Pearl Harbor, fought in the Pacific Theater and earned three WW II battle Stars. See her web pages for the details of her design, construction, service history and disposition.
