SS San Angelo Victory: Offered is a WW II Memorial Ship cover pictorially

postmarked Feb 17, 2007 at San Angelo, Texas. This 455' merchant cargo vessel

was one of a large group of Victory Ships named for American Cities.

This ship was launched on Sept 20, 1945 by California Shipbuilding Corp. in Los Angeles

and named for the City of San Angelo, Texas. This proud new ship transported vital

supplies to US and Allied Forces during WW II. She survived the war and was laid up in 1948.

She carried commercial cargo under her name and under two other names until 1971, when she

was sold to be recycled for scrap metal.

#9964 USCS. Cover franked with a 37 cent WW II stamp  and a 3 cent Merchant Marine stamp # 939 from 1946.
