Here's an original 1881 dated K.G.C. (Keeley's Gold Cure) quack opium or drunkenness cure bottle from the famous Keeley Institute of Dwight, Illinois.....K.G.C. boldly emb on shoulder, (Keeley's Gold Cure).....PATENTED MARCH 13 1881 on sunken bottom....Hand blown in mold.....hand tooled ring collar with little pinched pour spout.....clear.....unique patented shape.....5 1/2"tall.....Excellent condition with no chips or damage. A dug bottle with inside haze.  This is one of the first original Keeley Cure bottles from the 1880s! Dr.Leslie E.Keeley began treating addicts in the late 1870s. By 1881 Keeley had patented a unique shaped bottle for his various addiction cures....including CURE FOR DRUNKENNESS....CURE FOR OPIUM HABIT....CURE FOR TOBACCO HABIT...etc. This particular "generic" Gold Cure bottle could have contained any of the various cures that Keeley produced. The Keeley Institute located in Dwight, Illinois became world famous for treatments of the addicted. Soon Keeley Institutes were built in several other locations around the country and Keeley became a very wealthy man. You can read much more about Keeley and his bottles online.
