Eigenständig und unabhängig erschienener erster Band aus der vierteiligen Gesamtausgabe der Sittenlehre des bedeutenden Kirchenlehrers und späteren Erzbischof von Florenz, beeinflusst von der „Summa theologica“ des Thomas von Aquin, den er verehrte. Florentinus war ein enger Vertrauter von Cosimo de Medici. 1523 erhob Papst Hadrian VI. Antonius Florentinus zum Heiligen.
Bemerkenswert ist die hübsche Illumination der großen Eingangsinitiale „Q“ in Farben sowie Ranken in Federwerk. Die Inkunabel ist durchgehend rubriziert und mit zahlreichen Lombarden in Rot und Blau versehen. Der rötlichbraun eingefärbte Pergament-Einband aus dem 18. Jahrhundert mit Bordüren und Fleurons wird durch einen umlaufenden Goldschnitt mit dekorativer floraler Punzierung und Prägung aufgewertet.
Die Inkunabel ist absolut vollständig und befindet sich in einem überzeugend guten Erhaltungszustand. Das Kolophon (Druckdatum) befindet sich auf dem letzten Textblatt vor dem Register.
Nicolas Jenson (1420 – 1480) war ein bedeutender französischer Schriftentwerfer, Stempelschneider, Typograf, Kalligraf, Drucker, Verleger und Buchhändler. Anfangs war er Maler, lernte den Beruf des Kupferstechers und arbeitete bei der königlich-französischen Münze Monnaie de France in Paris, möglicherweise als Graveur, später war er Münzmeister der Stadt Tours. 1458 sandte ihn der französische König Karl VII. per Dekret nach Mainz, um die von Johannes Gutenberg erfundene neue Kunst der beweglichen Druck-Lettern zu studieren und so dessen Erfindung auch für Frankreich nutzbar zu machen. Er arbeitete u.a. in der Druckerei von Peter Schöffer und schuf dort auch bereits neue Schriftschnitte und dauerhafte Punzen, bevor er dann ab etwa 1469 nach Venedig ging und zuerst für die Gebrüder Johannes und Wendelin von Speye arbeitete, die er aus seiner Mainzer Zeit kannte. Er war der bedeutendste Drucker-Verleger Venedigs. Die Jenson-Antiqua war die erste qualitativ überzeugende Antiqua der Typografiegeschichte.

EINBAND
Pergament-Einband des 18. Jahrhunderts, rötlichbraun eingefärbt mit schwarzgeprägten Fleurons und Bordüren. Deckel berieben und mit schwachen Kratzspuren. Vorderdeckel oben mit kleinem Loch. Ecken, Gelenke und Kanten gering berieben und bestoßen. 5 Bünde. Buchblock fest und stabil.
Folio. Maße: 29 x 22 x 5 cm.
Äußerst gut und original erhalten. Breitrandig. Die ersten 30 Blatt in den Außenrändern minimal feuchtfleckig außerhalb des Textes, zu Beginn minimal braun- und stockfleckig sowie mit gelegentlich kleinem Wurmlöchlein. Kräftiger Druck und festes klangvolles Bütten.

Independently published first volume from the four-part complete edition of the moral teachings of the important church scholar and later Archbishop of Florence, influenced by the "Summa theologica" of Thomas Aquinas, whom he revered. Florentinus was a close confidant of Cosimo de Medici. In 1523, Pope Hadrian VI elevated Antonius Florentinus to saint.
The beautiful illumination of the large opening initial "Q" in colors and tendrils in penwork is remarkable. The incunable is rubricated throughout and has numerous lombards in red and blue. The reddish-brown parchment binding from the 18th century with borders and fleurons is enhanced by a surrounding gilt edge with decorative floral punching and embossing.
The incunable is absolutely complete and is in a convincingly good state of preservation. The colophon (printing date) is on the last text leaf before the index.
Nicolas Jenson (1420 - 1480) was an important French type designer, stamp cutter, typographer, calligrapher, printer, publisher and bookseller. Initially a painter, he learned the trade of engraver and worked at the French royal mint Monnaie de France in Paris, possibly as an engraver. Later he was master of the mint of the city of Tours. In 1458, the French King Charles VII sent him to Mainz by decree to study the new art of movable type printing invented by Johannes Gutenberg and thus make his invention available to France. He worked in the print shop of Peter Schöffer, among others, where he also created new type styles and permanent hallmarks, before going to Venice from around 1469 and initially working for the brothers Johannes and Wendelin von Speye, whom he knew from his time in Mainz. He was the most important printer-publisher in Venice. The Jenson Antiqua was the first qualitatively convincing Antiqua in the history of typography.

Vellum binding of the 18th century, reddish brown colored with black embossed fleurons and borders. Cover rubbed and with faint scratch marks. Front cover with small hole at top. Corners, joints and edges slightly rubbed and bumped. 5 frets. Book block firm and stable.
Folio. Dimensions: 29 x 22 x 5 cm.
Extremely good and original condition. Wide margins. The first 30 leaves in the outer margins minimally dampstained outside the text, at the beginning minimally browned and foxed and with occasional small wormhole. Strong impression and firm sonorous laid paper.
