WHY NEED IT? HOW THE EXHAUST BACK PRESSURE INFLUENCE PERFORMANCE OF THE ENGINE?

The engine exhaust system is designed to exhaust the exhaust gas generated in the combustion chamber quickly and efficiently. Therefore, when the exhaust back pressure is too large, the exhaust resistance will increase, the exhaust rate will decrease, and ultimately the engine combustion efficiency will decline, and the economic performance will become worse. At the same time, the power performance will also decline.

The exhaust back pressure has a great influence on the power, economy and emission performance of the engine. General automobile special instruments cannot be used to detect the exhaust back pressure, otherwise it will cause misjudgment and trouble to the maintenance work.

• If the meter pointer is not in the initial state "0", the meter may have been affected during transportation.
• You can remove the case and adjust the pointer to "0", this will not affect the test results.

OPERATION STEPS FOR BASIC EXHAUST BACK PRESSURE TESTER

If there are two or more sensors, start testing at the one nearest the engine and proceed down stream.

1. Disconnect the sensor wires and remove the sensor.
2. Install the sensor adapter.
3. Push the hose end onto the adapter and make the pressure test. If hose end gets loose with age, use a hose clamp.
4. Start the engine. At idle, read the lower scale on the gauge. It should not be over 1-1/4PSI (0.09bar) or be in the red zone. If it is, stop the engine and locate the restriction, and correct it.
5. If the reading at idle is not red zone on the lower scale, rev-up the engine to 2500 RPM. If the reading is in red zone 3PSI,(21bar) then is a restricted exhaust system. Repair Restriction.
6. If the vehicle has a Y-PIPE with converters on both sides, a reading must be taken ahead of both converters.
7. If the vehicle has a converters in series, testing for restrictions of both converters is necessary.
8. If the vehicle has a dual exhaust system each side must be checked.

WARNING

1. Allow all parts to cool off before handing.
2. Use proper ventilation and avoid breathing in exhaust.
3. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.
4. Wear safety goggles.
