Singha (singa bersayap) is a mythical winged lion creature popular in Southeast Asian mythology, especially in the Indonesian province of Bali. They are often depicted as stone, bronze or wooden statues, where they are used as Temple Guardians.

Singa's like this are carved to act as a plinth to hold the pillars for roofs in Bali. You can see the flat area on the back where the pillar would be placed.

Hand painted in white with shades of white, red, pink, blue and black and gold accents in the traditional Balinese style.
The hard course grain wood (teak, chempaka or sandlewood) has an aged patina and signs of wear to the paint. Overall the wood is in good condition for its age however there are multiple cracks as photographed. Tail is removable which makes packing and moving much easier.

Barong is an animal deity or spirit in Balinese mythology. He is the king of the spirits and symbolizes goodness. Banas Pati Rajah is believed to be the spirit that drives the Barong and is a protective spirit that accompanies a child throughout his life. In Bali each region has a guardian spirit in the forest or land.
Each of these protective spirits are portrayed in the form of certain animals:
Barong Ket : barong lion , barong most common and represents the spirit of goodness.
Landung Barong : Barong giants , Chinese culture has influenced and shaped these like Ondel-ondel Betawi.
The boar Barong Bangkal: Barong shaped boar
Barong Macan : barong-shaped leopard or tiger
Naga Barong : Barong shaped dragon or snake
