The Word "Quaich" is derived from the Gaelic word "Cuach", which means shallow cup. The Quaich originated in the Scottish Highlands centuries ago and became a favourite drinking cup throughout the entirety of Scotland, Traditionally the Quaich was used when offering a guest a "cup of welcome" and again when offering a farewell or parting drink. The simple yet aesthetically pleasing shape of the Quaich has remained unchanged for hundreds of years, a shallow bowl, with two handles, or ears, or as colloquially known, "lugs", at either side.
The original Quaich was made from primitive "staved" wood, then from horn or leather. Later by the seventeenth century, these materials were superseeded by Pewter and Silver.
