The US Liberty Ship named in his honor transported cargo during WW II to US and Allied Forces. It was built in Portland, Oregon and delivered on Jan 27, 1942, one of the first built. Unfortunately, the ship was sunk by German U-Boat U-634 in the North Atlantic on March 2, 1943.
