"WORLD PHILATELIST EXHIBITION EXPO - 89 Washington USA

This series of mail new stamps of the USSR was published for the World Philatelic Exhibition EXPO-89 in Washington and was made on the theme of space philately, popular among collectors. The first two stamps of the series (artist V. Larichkin) are dedicated to important milestones in the history of space research: flights to the Moon of Soviet automatic interplanetary stations and a visit to the natural satellite of the Earth by US cosmonauts. The subjects of the two subsequent stamps are flights to Mars in fantastic drawings by USSR cosmonauts A. Leonov and V. Dzha Nibekov."
