This is a first edition, second printing, of the most famous and comprehensive book on Disney animated filmmaking from Walt Disney's earliest days through the next six glorious decades. There are 489 plates in full color and 1000s of black-and-white illustrations in this exhaustive history and study of every aspect of the production of the Studio's animated shorts and features.

It was written by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, two members of Walt Disney's Nine Old Men, his core group of lead animators. The first of their four authoritative books on Disney animation, it was published shortly after they retired from The Walt Disney Studios. Appendices reprint seven (7) interesting Disney Studios documents of the 1930s by Hamilton Luske, Vladimir Tytla, Fred Moore, Fred Spencer, Norman Ferguson, and Art Babbitt that analyze animation theory and practice, action, character, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and the Goof. The cover is stamped in gold-color ink with an image of Pinocchio and Geppetto.

This is a sound, clean and very nice book that has only slight shelf wear along the bottom: overall, VERY FINE condition.
