KEF 104.2 Speakers

These speakers were made May 18, 1989 and have the desirable rubber butyl surrounds instead of the later model foam surrounds. These are highly collectible, having exceptional efficient audio quality for the price. Today's modern speakers of this quality are easily $4k-5k. British manufactured in the mid-1980's and designed by Raymond Cooke. Warm and balanced sound without distortion even under higher wattages and really shine when connected to quality power amplifiers.

I love these speakers and restoring them. I normally replace the crossover capacitors with matched sets as specified by the manufacturer using the same capacitor manufacturer as KEF, ALCAPS. I have not replaced the capacitors on this pair to keep them more affordable.

Both of the original KEF T33 tweeters were carefully cleaned and ferrofluid replaced, new dust caps installed on the woofers, rubber bass driver mounts were also replaced, connectors cleaned, refreshed glue and rubber gasket foam where needed.  The cabinets are in great condition for being over 30 years old, small scuffs and veneer crack/chips on some of the bottom edges.  Cabinets I rate 7 out of 10, 10 being no scratches or fading, and capacitors replaced.  Grill covers recovered and original grill frames in great condition.

The set comes with documentation and restoration notes recording all stages of work done including many photos of the various stages of restoration if requested. Ready for more HiFi audiophile level enjoyment! These are located in Monterey, CA for local pickup.  *Van Delivery can be arranged for nominal fee if within Monterey to Los Angeles area. These are heavy items and require special handling.

Recommended use with amplifiers rated between 25 and 200 watts 4-ohm resistive loads.

Total resistance in series with each speaker is less than 0.2 ohm (up to 12’ with 14-gauge wire or 20’ with 12-gauge wire).
