These cards are of the Bourgeois Tarot pattern and are of the early edition, sometimes called the Encyclopaedic Tarot.  These early edition cards lacked the corner indices on suit cards, but instead had the indices on the suit cards in the top and bottom center.

The 54-card full deck pack consists of four suits of eight cards plus 21 permanent trumps and a škýz, which is unnumbered and looks a little like a joker.  Each card features chromolithograph printing of highly decorated suits of cards. The back of the card is a plaid. This is not a traditional card deck or game.  Rules for the game still do exist online.


The game, "Tarok" or "Tarock", appeared around 1750. Now mainly produced in Austria, the four suited pack with court cards (King, Queen, Jack and Rider - or Horseman) and the numeral cards reduced so that the pack contains a total of 54 cards. The Trumps feature scenes and costumes.
