SS Rice Victory: This 455' merchant cargo ship was built by the California Shipbuilding at Los Angeles, CA in 1945 and launched on June 16, 1945.  The ship was named for Rice University in Houston, TX and is part of a group of 150 Victory Ships that were named for American Colleges and Universities. The proud new vessel transported vital supplies to US and Allied Forces overseas during WW II. Walt Disney and his family attended the ship launching.
She survived the war, was placed in reserve, and sold for recycling into scrap metal in the 1989.
