The role of the subwoofer is to compensate for the deep bass part of the stereo sound, usually at frequencies below 100Hz. The 2.1 preamp board needs to be used with a 3CH amplifier board. It is recommended to use a board with 3CH amplification circuit, or use a 2CH amplifier board and a mono amplifier board. When your speaker needs a stereo sound, a subwoofer can be used. The combination is what we call a 2.1 speaker matching system
