Soligor was one of the top independent lens and accessory brands, and this is a modern CdS exposure meter. It's in fully working order and very good condition, supplied with case, instructions and a battery.

The meter is very easy to operate – simply set the film speed, turn the main dial to line up with the reading from the meter needle, and read off any of the suitable shutter speed and aperture combinations. The metering method is reflected, where you point the meter at the subject. Very comprehensive scales include film speeds from ASA (ISO) 6 to 6400 and DIN 9 to 39, shutter speeds from 15 seconds to 1/2,000th of a second, apertures from f/1.0 to f/90, cine camera speeds from 8 to 64 frames per second and exposure values from EV 3 to 18. The exposure measuring range is from approximately EV 2 (1/2 second at f/2.0) to EV 18 (1/1000th at f/16) with ISO 100, split into high and low ranges. Unusually the meter switches between these two ranges automatically.

This Soligor UF II Exposure Meter is nicely made (in Japan) with smooth controls and clear markings. It is very compact at only 85x55x20mm (3.3x2.1x0.7") and weighs just 37g (1.3oz) with battery, making it eminently pocketable. A loop is provided for a wrist or neck strap (not included). Power is supplied by a single SR44, LR44 or similar 1.5v battery (a common type, still available – many older meters require mercury batteries for accurate readings), and one is included. A battery check feature is provided, and power can be switched off when not in use.

An essential little accessory for many camera users.

Compatibility

As the meter doesn't connect to the camera in any way, it's compatible with any model where you can set the exposure manually. This includes many 35mm, sub miniature, medium format, large format, instant, cine and digital cameras. A meter can even useful be for many automatic film or digital cameras which don't provide metering on manual or with manual lenses.
