PRODUST DETAILS The history of mail and postage stamps of France, a state in the west of Europe, covers the early (pre-stamp), classical (stamps of the 19th - early 20th centuries) and modern periods. Since 1849, France has been issuing its own postage stamps, and since 1876 it has been a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Postal operations in the country are carried out by La Poste. Early (pre-mart) stage On June 19, 1464, the first postal service was established by decree of the French king Louis XI, which delivered correspondence only for the king and the royal court.
