The Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird" is a long-range, high-altitude plane built in 1963 to fly up to 2000 mph. The Blackbird had Mach 3 speed that allow it to outrun surface-to-air missiles. It broke the air speed record at 2193mph and is still considered the fastest jet in the world. It was used by the US Air Force and NASA.
