Date : The oak box is early 20th century
William IV revival. The decanters are interwar
Period : 1900-1940
Origin : The
bottles are Stourbridge. The lock is a late Victorian Samuel Hall Patent lock.
Decoration : Sarcophogus shaped, the interior
has a velvet base and six divisions formed by a wooden frame. Acanthus
type ormolu handles. Six lead crystal pint decanters with fitted ball stoppers.
Size : 36.5cm x 33.7 and height 28.5
Condition : Good. One bottle has a small chip one a
canted corner. Working lock and key
Restoration : This has evolved over a number of years.
The escutcheon plate has been replaced and the hinges.
Weight : 1165 grams
Although this is a hybrid it is functional and decoative
with good sculptural form. The property of a Man of Kent.
