Presenting a rare antique Royal Trick Elephant tin mechanical bank. This bank was made in Germany and is attributed to Saalheimer & Strauss c. 1910. Bank needs repair to mechanism
The elephant itself is a tan and green color with shading and blending of the two colors. There is a red blanket or robe covering the elephant’s body. This has gold fringe around the edges and red tassels hanging down each of the legs. In addition there is blue and gold bordering and other decorations on the robe.
On each side of the red base the following verse appears: "Put a coin in the slot then you’ll see something funny. Press my tail hard and I’ll swallow the money". On the front of the red base appears the name "Royal ‘Trick’ Elephant Bank". The following wording appears on each side of the base just under the coin holder, "Place Coin Here," and there is an arrow pointing up to the coin holder.
Condition:
The bank shows some points of wear but most of the original finish is present and still colorful. The bank is missing its tin trap. The tail and the rectangular tin piece in the mechanism that accepts the coin when it falls into the bank have been disconnected . This bank does not work and sold as is and needs repair. The elephant's head move when pushed. However, even with these flaws, the bank is still interesting and worth repairing. Search for other listing of this bank and a good working one will bring several thousands of dollars.
