Description Die Untersuchung zur sakralen Legitimation des Konigs Sesostris I. (ca. 1950 - 1900 v. Chr.) ist aus einem Projekt im Rahmen des Sonderforschungsbereiches "Kulturelle und sprachliche Kontakte: Prozesse des Wandels in historischen Spannungsfeldern Nordostafrikas/ Westasiens" an der Johannes Gutenberg Universitat in Mainz hervorgegangen und stellen einen Baustein in der Erforschung der religiosen Grundlagen des Herrschaftsverstandnisses im 2. Jahrtausend v. Chr. dar. Arbeitsgrundlage waren einige ausgewahlte Texte, die einen interessanten Einblick in die ideologischen und dogmatischen Anschauungen des Konigs und seines Umfeldes liefern. Wichtigste Partner im Beziehungsgeflecht des Konigs sind die Gotter, gefolgt von der Beamtenschaft in seiner direkten Umgebung und schliesslich seinen Untertanen, dem agyptischen Volk. Einen weiteren Knotenpunkt in diesem Netzwerk bilden seine Feinde.
