Here's a scarce early pontiled Gouley's Fountain of Health bitters bottle from the mid 1840s.....GOULEY'S FOUNTAIN OF HEALTH  (picture of a flowing fountain) NO. 38 BALTIMORE ST. BALTIMORE. all boldly emb on front of bottle...Open Pontil....hand blown in 2 part mold...crude drippy applied double collar....aqua...round 9 3/4"tall...Excellent condition with only a 1/2"shallow bruise on the top inside edge of lip; no other damage. A dug bottle that has been lightly tumbled to remove some haze. Retains some surface scaling, mainly on inside surface of neck. A shiny clean bottle. Crude whittled glass....a great looking bottle with bold embossing!  Louis Gouley was advertising his Gouley's Vegetable Bitters as early as 1839. Although Gouley produced other medicines, this large bottle almost certainly contained his Vegetable Bitters. This bottle dates from the 1840s and is scarce! I've been fortunate enough to dig two of them in St.Louis (one I decided to keep in my own personal collection)...
