"Beloved princess"

Persian lion plushwork stumpwork embroidery. I am uncertain of it's age but I believe it is from the later half of the 19th century, about 1850-1900. The red background fabric looks handwoven the text of "maboubeh khanom" is woven into the red textile. I do see some spots on the background that look to be from a slightly different thread. I don't know if this is original or a repair. There are also a few small holes that have had repair. Please see the last photo. The lion is raised plush of very high quality. The gold shadowbox is not original. It was either framed or reframed recently. It has a burgundy red suede mat shadowbox spacers and is protected with museum glass, which is uv protectant and the best nonglare. Looks to me like it was framed in the early 2000s. Has an Aaron Brothers signed framing sticker.

I don't know too much about the history of this piece but it appears of enough importance to be well taken care of. It must have taken some time and craftsmanship to complete this special gift for a special young lady. From my research Mahboubeh means Lady love, beloved, sweetheart, well loved, dearest....

Khanom means princess, or noble woman.
