[蠣崎波響 Hakyo Kakizaki] 1764-1826
A painter of the late Edo period.
Matsumae clan chief retainer.
The fifth son of Matsumae Sukehiro, the 12th lord of the Matsumae domain.
His name was Hironen, his character was Yosuke, and his common name was Shokan.
He studied under Takebe Ryotai, a painter of the Nampo school, and later studied under Song Zishi.
Throughout his life, he had exchanges with Nenko Ohara, Okyo Maruyama, Kishikoma, Goshun Matsumura of the Shijo school, Kien Minagawa, and other literary figures, including Chinese poets Suga Chayama, Rokunyo, Nanki Tachibana, and Kokei Ban. His disciples in painting include his successor, Hatake, as well as Nama Takahashi, Namika Takahashi, Tokuzan Kumasaka, and Ransai Kumasaka. Died in 1826 at the age of 63.
